Drive by Canada

My roommate Camille and I decided to drive up to Vancouver for a visit since our days off overlapped. We made it up Monday evening, found a hotel, walked along the waterfront and ate yummy seafood. I had a bunch of fun things planned for Tuesday. Unfortunately we woke up that morning to find it snowing like crazy. And all of those fun things that I had planned involved being outside. So, needless to say we had to alter out plans a little.

This is how our trip turned into drive by Canada. It was too cold to get out of the car so we drove by interesting points and took pictures. Since I was driving, Camille took the pictures so I'll just give you a sample of the day. Here is one of the few times that we got out of the car. I really wanted to see this clock, the only steam powered clock in the world.

And to prove that we were actually there, here are some special Canadian snacks: ketchup chips and dill pickle chips. I had never either flavor before- very interesting.

To end the trip on a high note, we stopped at Walmart on the way home (there are no Walmarts in Seattle proper) where I bought a nightgown and 4 avacados. We'll have to go back in the springtime so we can finish my list of things to do in Vancouver.

This picture has nothing to do with Canada but I found it in my files. Since I never posted anything about my Christmas vacation, here I am with cute Gracie.

Snaps for Greenlake!

This is one of my favorite places in Seatte and lucky for me, it is only a couple miles away. Besides being my training ground for the half marathon but I love it because it is like a mecca for Seattle runners.

Here are some of the interesting things I've encoutered there in the last week:

*A tightrope walker in training. I've seen this man a couple of times who ties a cable between two trees and...well, practices walking on it.

*Dancing roller-skating man. Today I running behind this guy who was wearing roller skates, the likes of which I haven't seen since my ninth birthday party at Skateland. He was skating backwards, kicking his legs up, and bopping his head around. The strange thing was he didn't appear to be listening to music. It was quite entertaining.

*Myself running 6 miles without stopping. Wahoo!

Running Amok

Yesteday in Relief Society, one of the sisters mentioned that she was planning on running a half marathon in June. I thought to myself, "Oh, I've always wante to do that." Then I talked to her tonight at FHE and she got me all excited about it. Why not now? Why not me? I signed up on line and paid the fee so now I am committed. It actually sounds really cool. Here is the logo:

It has its name because along the route, there are bands playing and afterwards there is a big concert. Fun, right? Well, today I ran three miles- only a fraction of the 13 miles I hope to run in 6 months but its a start.
